NDA, NHF, FMBN Meet Over Staff Welfare

Standing on his promise to provide a befitting welfare package to the Civilian Staff of the Nigerian Defence Academy, the Commandant NDA, Major General MT Ibrahim has taken it a step further by engaging the leadership of the National Housing Fund (NHF) on how best NDA staff can fully benefit from the scheme. Consequently, a committee, chaired by Professor Alabi, was set up to ensure that the voices of staff were heard. This culminated into a parley between staff of the Academy, officials of the NHF, and Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) which held at the Air Force Wing of the NDA to address staff grievances arising from the way the scheme is being operated.

In his opening remarks, the Academy Registrar (AR), Brigadier General IM Yusuf, emphasized the need for the NHF to live up to their billing in assisting NDA staff acquire properties or enjoy any benefits the scheme offers. He noted that since the inception of the scheme in NDA in 1992, no staff retired or deceased had benefited from the scheme. According to him, the essence of the meeting was to quench the agitations of the staff and to implement and operationalize the Commandantâ€™s ideas on how best the staff will benefit from the scheme. He promised that a lot of recommendations have been reviewed and will be implemented. He therefore urged the NHF to step up the scheme or risk losing NDA.

Responding, the Kaduna State Coordinator of the Scheme Mrs Ummu Baba Ahmed promised to make amends and she started by offering 200 house renovation forms, 10 slots for completed houses and 4 prequalification forms and other various packages.
Most of the staff who was not satisfied with the offering threatened to withdraw their membership of the scheme but was calmed down by the soothing words and promises of the AR who opted to prevail on the NHF to deliver on their promises.
