Commandant Addresses Cadets, Queries Rising Indiscipline

The commandant Nigerian Defence Academy Major General MT Ibrahim has addressed all cadets of Nigeria Defence Academy regarding their conduct as cadets and how best to achieve their set objectives in the Academy. The address comes at the heels of recent acts of misconduct by some cadets, which ultimately led to their dismissal from the Academy.

At the Commandant’s address which took place at the NDA Multi-Purpose Hall, the Commandant expressed great dismay over acts of indiscipline and extortion amongst cadets that were uncovered recently. He emphasized that the Academy is no breeding ground for such indiscipline and unwholesome conduct. While appreciating the great improvement in training in the Academy, he further stressed the need for character bearing and comportment to reflect the great effort and training they have received in the Academy. This, in turn, will help them impact positively on the larger society or where ever they find themselves.

Major General Ibrahim further urged the cadets to be self disciplined and not lose their respect to their subordinate through acts of indiscipline. To be a member of the Armed Forces, he disclosed, such an individual must be of high moral standard and be able to pass the integrity test. Speaking on the recent case of extortion, the Commandant warned the cadets to desist from such acts, adding that anyone caught committing such a disgraceful act will be shown the way out. Henceforth, he said, Cadet Appointments at the battalions will be held responsible if any case of extortion is reported, adding that such conducts go against the military tradition where only esprit de corps is cultivated.

While reiterating the need for the cadets to be of high moral standards, he urged them to sit up, adding that the Academy will not hesitate to get rid of the bad eggs. He further added that the journey ahead is demanding and tasking as such they should be resilient and focused. He also promised to improve their welfare and better enhance training in the Academy.
