The Nigerian Defence Academy Staff School (NDASS) has successfully conducted her annual Speech and Prize Giving event, which marked the formal graduation of 85 pupils who have excelled in their studies and have met every requirement necessary for them to proceed into junior secondary school.

Presenting the graduands, the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs KM Abdusalam noted that the school which was established in February 1989 to meet the aspirations and yearnings of the NDA staff to access quality education for their children and wards and has a total population of 1412 pupils from nursery 1 to primary 6. Mrs Abdulsalam disclosed that pupils of the school had participated in various academic and extracurricular activities such as Mathematics and English competitions, in which they came out tops, undertook excursions and television appearances, to mention a few. She further revealed that the infrastructural challenges in the school have been addressed by the Commandant NDA, Major General MT Ibrahim through the remodeled school blocks, well furnished offices and classrooms, state – of – the – art playground, regular water supply and a security post. She acknowledged that these structures have helped the pupils to excel in their academic and extracurricular activities.

In his address, the Father of the Day and Commandant NDA, Major General MT Ibrahim, who was represented by the Mother of the Day and President of Nigerian Defence Academy Officers Wives Association (NDAOWA), Mrs Fauziya Ibrahim, congratulated the graduands for successfully completing their studies, and the teachers who have worked so hard to mould the pupils into future great leaders. He urged them to continue to work harder in order to attain lofty heights.

Earlier, the Special Guest of Honour who is the Academy Provost, Professor AS Nwankwo, represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Professor OE Tangban, admitted that it was proper to honour the graduands who have spent six years of hard work and dedication to studies. He commended the Commandant Major General MT Ibrahim and the Academy Registrar, Brigadier General IM Yusuf for offering tremendous support in improving educational facilities and the training capacity of the teachers.
In the same vein, the Guest of Honour, Associate Professor Adetutu Aliyu who was represented by Major AO Babarinde commended the graduands and teachers for their perseverance and excellent achievements. He noted that this was made possible by the serene learning environment provided by the Commandant, as well as the commitment of the teachers and parents towards ensuring that the pupils receive the best possible training. Professor Aliyu further advised the teachers and pupils to imbibe the five factors of success which he enumerated as “growth, failure, generosity, gratitude and Godâ€.
Highlights of the event include the presentation of prizes to all the graduands and awards to those who excelled in certain areas of study, presentation of the 4th edition of the school magazine, recitation of poems in English and French by the pupils, presentation of News Panorama by the pupils and cultural dance displays also by the pupils.
