President Buhari Cautions Military On Deployment Of Females

â€¦Commends NDA Leadership As It Graduates 119 Officers

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Nigerian Military to employ caution in the deployment of female military officers into active combat role so as to respect public opinion and cultural sensibilities.

The President stated this on the occasion of the Passing Out Parade (POP) of One Hundred and Nineteen Cadets of the 63 Regular Course, amongst them, 17 pioneer Female Regular Combatant Officers commissioned into the combat arms of the Nigerian Armed Forces, a first in the history of the Academy.

The President who noted with delight the infrastructural development at the Academy such as the Indoor Gallery Range and the expanded Obstacle Crossing Course and the high standard of training which the leadership of the Nigerian Defence Academy has achieved since his last visit one year before, extolled the effort and commitment of the Commandant, Major General MT Ibrahim, and the staff of the institution.

President Buhari acknowledged that the cadets were graduating at a very auspicious time in the nationâ€™s history, when security challenges like insurgency, militancy and kidnaps among others were bedevilling the country and so as commissioned officers they must be ready to take responsibility and be prepared to make sacrifices. He further urged the graduating cadets to exhibit patriotism, discipline and loyalty to one Nigeria, whilst advising them to remain apolitical throughout their years in Military Service.

The President, who was the guest of honour and reviewing officer on the occasion of the Passing out Parade, attributed the successes gained in the war against insurgency in the north east to the gallantry of the Nigerian Military, noting that terrorism and insurgency are threats to global peace hence the need for nations to join hands and fight terrorism.

President Buhari used the occasion to call on criminal elements disguised in ethnic regalia who are sabotaging the nationâ€™s economy to desist from doing so as even though his administration prefers the constructive engagement of the stakeholders for peace, it would not hesitate to use military force should such a need be deemed necessary.

While congratulating the Passing Out Cadets, their parents, guardians, instructors and the entire Academy on a very colourful Passing Out Parade, The President urged the graduating cadets to see their future as payback for the investment their parents, guardians and indeed the nation had made on them.
