Receiving the award, Major General MT Ibrahim expressed delight at the thoroughness the organization has thrown into their research before deciding on the award. He indicated that although he was not keen on receiving commendations for the work he does, thus he had previously turned down many awards, he however accepted this particular award because of he was convinced they had done due diligence before deciding to give him the award.
He further disclosed that he always tries to do his best and leave behind solid legacies wherever he served because he feels the nation expects nothing less from him. He indicated that he is always interested in finding ways to improve things wherever he finds himself, recalling that as Commanding Officer of 81 Battalion years back, he had built a primary school in Jaji. He also established a sports competition for secondary schools in Sokoto State, involving no less than 16 schools from across the entire state. In all of these, General Ibrahim noted that he expects nothing in return more than serving as a role model for others to emulate.
The Commandant, who stressed that he owed a lot to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for moulding him into what he is today, recalled with nostalgia how he enjoyed free education throughout his school days. He recalled further that in those days it did not matter if you were a Christian or a Muslim or what tribe you were from, everyone was treated fairly and given the opportunity to fully actualize their full potentials. He therefore decried what is happening in the society today where people were being treated based on their religion, ethnicity or creed.
The presentation of award by IFMO comes on the heels of some awards which Major General MT Ibrahim has received recently. Notably, an award from the United States Congress for “Championing the Cause of Education in Africaâ€, and another award from a notable organization in the United States on account of his sterling military leadership.
