In a bid to sharpen their administrative skills and enhance performance of Registry Field Staff deployed in the various faculties, directorates and the Cadets Brigade, the Admission and Pension Unit of the Academic Branch of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) organized a Capacity Building Workshop to further facilitate the academic processes and administration of NDA civilian staff.

Organized for Faculty Officers (FOs) and Departmental Executive Officers (DEOs), the workshop, which was themed, “WORK ETHICS AND PACKAGING FOR RESULTS”, was aimed at enhancing staff’s performance and increasing their ability in giving administrative support and meeting the stakeholder’s expectations.

Addressing participants at the event, the Workshop Facilitator, Mr FB Bakare Esq, said that the training was designed to tackle the identified gaps that have existed in the conduct of FOs and DEOs and emphasized that ethics is the conduct & character of how the Field Staff execute their tasks and how they package themselves in order to achieve results. He noted that a combination of good work, ethics and actual performance on the job are important to achieving results. Advising the Participants, he said that to become efficient field staff, they must embrace ethics and packaging in order to bring about the best results.

Earlier in the workshop, the Special Guest of Honour and the Academic Provost, Professor AS Nwankwo, noted that work ethics which interrogates the role content is necessary to perform the roles assigned to staff.

According to him, it involves understanding the job description and how well to discharge the duties given. He advised the staff to abide by the conventional work practices and avoid jettisoning the details of work assigned to them. He condemned the issue of complacency among staff and urged them to extend their capabilities by learning every day. Continuing, he acknowledged that efficiency and effectiveness are the yardsticks needed by the staff to excel. He encouraged them to take advantage of the new opportunities presented for further training so that they will be able to re-profile their functions and become better staff. Finally, he thanked the Facilitator, the Chief Host and the Participants for their commitment and dedication.

The Scope of the 2 day workshop covered NDA vision and mission, overview of the Registry vision, mission and functions, roles of FOs and DEOs, and core values of the Registry. Others are essentials of performance appraisal & reporting, university governance & decision making, developing key administrative skills and quiz & hands on evaluation.

Giving the vote of thanks, the Chief Host of the workshop and the Academy Registrar, Brigadier General IM Yusuf, thanked the Special Guest of Honour most sincerely for his support, guidance and encouragement. He observed that without periodic capacity development, the staff will grow rusty. He assured him that the theme and aim of the workshop will be achieved and that the gaps noticed will be bridged.
