The Former Commandant Nigeria Defence Academy Maj Gen MT Ibrahim was honoured with the prestigious award of Exam Ethics Chief Master Marshal at the just concluded Exam Ethic Marshals International 20th Anniversary Conference and Awards held at Transcorp Hotel Calabar between 21 – 24 Mar 17. The Former Commandant was represented by the Academy Registrar, Brigadier General IM Yusuf. The award was in recognition of the former Commandant’s outstanding and distinguished contributions to the promotion of ethics, integrity and best practices in education. This is a landmark achievement for the Commandant and the Academy which has a zero-tolerance for examination malpractice and literal plagiarism.
In the same vein, the Academy Examinations Officer, Dr Saidu Garba, was inaugurated as Institutional Exam Ethics Coordinators and admitted as a member of Exam Ethics Coordinators. Combined, these recognitions are a huge plus for the Academy in the pursuit of academic excellence.
The 20th Anniversary Exam Ethics Marshal International Conference and Award was organized with the sole aim of assessing the impact, lessons and challenges of twenty years of Examination Ethics Marshal campaign in Nigeria. The event witnessed the attendance of 86 delegates from 44 institutions and agencies of including National Universities Commission (NUC), National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), National Teachers Institutes, Universities, Polytechnics, Parastatals and boards. A total of (9) different educative and well-articulated articles were presented by various scholars that dwelled mainly on promoting best practices in University Education and Strategies of winning the examination ethics battle in order to win the anti-corruption war.
During the conference, ways of enhancing the quality of university education and preventing examination malpractices in our institutions were identified. These include improvement on the quality of teaching and proper supervision of lecturers by the HODs, acquisition of plagiarism software to check plagiarism and exploration of TETFUND research grants. Others are strengthening admission policy in collaboration with JAMB to ensure that only qualified candidates are admitted, proper accreditation of academic programmes in line with NUC standards and effective handling of examination malpractices, etc. The anniversary was particularly spectacular as it witnessed the presentation of other notable awards and inaugurations.
