Indian Training Military Team Visits to NDA
Following a previous visit to India by a team of instructors from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), a delegation of military instructors from National Defence Academy India has paid a reciprocal visit to NDA.
The head of the Indian delegation, Brigadier General BP Jacob, expressed his profound gratitude to the Academy for making the visit possible. He said the knowledge acquired from the tour will impact greatly and positively on the military trainings and activities in India.

Earlier, a Brief on NDA, which provided an overview of the organization and activities of the Academy, was presented to the visiting delegation by Flight Lieutenant IP Ogbonna of the Academy Public Relations Department. The Brief highlighted that NDA was established in 1964 in response to the defense needs of an independent Nigeria and serves as a factory for military leadership trainings. Since inception, the Academy has graduated well over 18,845 officers for the Nigerian military and 478 officers from sister African countries, and shows cadets’ current strength in the Academy as 2000.
Answering questions from the delegation, the former Commandant NDA, Major General MT Ibrahim affirmed that products of NDA have contributed immensely to national, regional and international peace, security, development, unity and cohesion. He said that since the establishment of NDA, the contributions of India and her armed forces, particularly in the areas of training and support through the provision of some teaching aids, have been overwhelming, adding that NDA has continually consolidated on these contributions. He assured members of the delegation that the NDA Indian Shield Prize for Tactics award has been retained in order to continually remind members of the Academy community of the contributions of India in the origins of NDA. The Commandant noted that the importance of the military in nation building should not be over emphasized saying that it serves as tool for diplomacy and peace building.
The 3 day visit witnessed a tour around the Academy, presentation of drill and obstacle crossing/rappelling display by cadets, among a series of events lined up to give the delegation insight into cadet’s military training in NDA.
