NDA Holds Training Workshop On Exam Ethics

The Exam Ethics Marshals International, an organization that is committed to the promotion of exam ethics and best practices all over the world, during its 20th Anniversary Conference Awards held at the Transcorps hotel Calabar, had awarded the former Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General MT Ibrahim, alongside 17 other recipients, as Exam Ethics Chief Master Marshal. The award which is the highest category bestowed on individuals for outstanding contributions to the promotion of ethics, integrity and best practices in education, was given to the former Commandant on account of his commitment to improving standards in NDA.

In view of the tangible benefits of the conference in Calabar, there was the need to follow up with a two - day in-house training workshop on Exam Ethics which will be facilitated by Exam Ethics Marshals International. The target participants for the workshop included Academic Staff, DMT Instructors & NDA Staff School teachers.

Declaring the workshop open, the Director Military Training (DMT), Brigadier General MG Kangye, expressed his honour and privilege to represent the Commandant who was unavoidably absent. He noted that exam malpractice which has become a household name in the world and has transformed into a deliberate exchange of papers by students and lecturers must be addressed. He charged the participants to always exhibit good conduct and behavior while also urging them to rise against exam malpractices and compromising of exam ethics. He commended NDA for exhibiting high standards, and keeping to the rules & ethics of exam. According to him, NDA has attained high standards because of its zero tolerance for exam malpractices, adding that no wonder NDA was adjudged 2nd out of the 24 institutions that were evaluated and assessed by the Exam Ethics Marshal International in Nigeria. Finally he admonished the participants to always insist on international best practices.

Earlier in the programme, the Academy Provost, Professor AS Nwankwo, represented by the Dean, Post Graduate School, Professor Ahmed, while giving his opening address noted that Examination, which is key to testing the capacity and capability of individual’s performance, remains a very important activity in education and that that NDA is a forerunner in the area of exam excellence. He further assured the workshop facilitators and participants that the former Commandant has always been in the forefront of anything decent and excellent. He said that the NDA is conscious of exam ethics and punishes any form of exam malpractices.

The two day event witnessed presentation of papers on diverse topics relating to exam ethics by the resource persons, general interactive discussions and inauguration of students Exam Ethics Club of NDA Secondary School. Other activities were inauguration of Exam Ethics Marshals NDA Chapter, post workshop diagnostics test and presentation of certificate to participants.
