The Adjutant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Lieutenant Colonel EU Effiong, has commended the standard of discipline among soldiers of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Lieutenant Colonel Effiong made this commendation while presenting awards and prize money to the best Drill Instructor and Best Personnel of the Academy. The Academy Adjutant said as instructors to the cadets, drill instructors and personnel should not cover up any wrong doing by the cadets because they need to be moulded into efficient and dependable officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

While advising them to guard against taking unilateral decisions and following the Chain of Command, he equally admonished them against committing any offence that could take them to the Guard Room, such as sentry offences and abandoning of guard duties. He reminded them that wherever they are detailed on duty, they are in charge, regardless of their ranks.

Lieutenant Colonel Effiong disclosed that this gesture of rewarding good conduct in soldiers is the first in a series of awards that are expected to spur personnel so that they may put in their best at all times. He further noted that turnout and punctuality to all parades were some of the criteria for receiving such awards.
Recipients of the Adjutant’s award are Staff Sergeant Jonah James, for being the best drill instructor, and Corporal Phoebe Ishaku, who received the award for Best Personnel.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the awardees, Staff Sergeant Jonah James gave thanks to God and appreciation to the Academy Adjutant for the award and nursed the hope that other personnel will work hard to get such awards.
