NDA Organizes Novices Boxing Exercise For 67 Regular Course
The Cadets Brigade Inter Battalion Novices boxing are one of the sporting events in the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) calendar of events. It is a weeklong non-competitive amateur boxing exercise which all medically fit Cadets must participate in. The Novices boxing is aimed at testing the Cadets endurance, stamina and inculcating an aggressive winning spirit in them.
This year’s exercise was organized for the Cadets of 67 Regular Course (67RC) which saw the Cadets of the different battalions – Burma, Mogadishu, Dalet and Abyssinia paired to fight.
Declaring the exercise open, the Guest of Honour, the Commandant NDA, Major General MT Ibrahim ably represented by the Academy Registrar Brigadier General AO Akinjobi while throwing more light on the essence of the exercise said that, the main idea of the Novices boxing as a non combat event is used to toughen and build up the Cadets for the challenges ahead in their chosen military profession. He said that apart from the endurance and stamina which it instills in them, it also creates hilarious comic relief. He enjoined the Cadets to give adequate effort to the exercise and put in their best.
Each bout consisted of three (3) rounds of two (2) minutes duration each with a one (1) minute rest interval. For a free, fair and proper officiating of the exercise, boxing officials from Kaduna State Sports Council were invited.
All the medically fit Cadets from the four battalions participated in the weeklong exercise which brought the event to a laudable and commendable end.
Bringing the event to a close, the Guest of Honour Major General MT Ibrahim ably represented by Chief Instructor Naval Wing NDA, Naval Captain S Ibrahim noted that, while NDA strives to produce Officers with sound academic and military skills, they should endevour to also prepare them physically through activities such as Novices boxing. He observed that the event has stimulated healthy rivalry and confidence among the Cadets.
He congratulated the winners of the bouts and urged those who lost to strive to excel in other activities by working harder and aspiring to be winners always. Navy Captain S Ibrahim appreciated the organizers and the officials for a job well done.
On this note, the 67RC Novices boxing were officially closed.
