In line with Commandant’s vision to see the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) rank amongst the best training institution in the world whose products will unquestionably be of the highest quality in both military and academic subjects as well as leadership requirement of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and that of the Armed Forces of friendly nations, the Commandant Major General MT Ibrahim paid a working visit to the academic branch which is the hub of the Academy to determine the level of intervention in the training of the Cadets and fine-tune the welfare of the staff towards attaining commitment and job satisfaction in order to achieve sustainable turnaround.


Presenting a detailed brief on the Academic Branch, the outgoing Academy Registrar, Brigadier General OT Akinjobi narrated the organization of the branch which includes the offices of the Academy Provost (AP), Academy Registrar (AR), Academy Librarian (AL), Deputy Registrars and 5 Research Centers, achievements of the branch, challenges facing the branch and prospects of the branch which stands as an arrowhead that projects the high potential of NDA as a military institution.


After the brief, the Commandant was conducted round the Academic branch to see things for himself. He visited the Registry department, the offices of the AP, AR, Deputy Registrars, the Faculties, the laboratories, lecture halls and the surroundings. He also met with the Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments and other Principal Academic and Non academic Staff for firsthand account of the needs of their various departments.




In his response, the Commandant applauded the Academic branch for their efforts in moving the Academy forward in order to meet up with the best international practices , complying with the rules of the National University Commission (NUC) and maintaining a healthy collaborations and linkages with other acknowledged institutions. He urged the staff to be steadfast and proactive in the face of challenges and give more attachment and commitment to their jobs. He adviced them to seek more collaborations and interventions with credible corporate bodies and individuals citing the dwindling financial allocations to the Academy as a constraint.

He however promised to attend to their needs and challenges. Some of the interventions made by the Commandant included but not limited to refurbishing of offices, laboratories, lecture halls, provision of 25 computers, 2 photocopiers, new annex building for Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), 5 official cars and environmental designs. He encouraged that the usage of the computers should be increased, utilized and networked.
The AP, Professor AS Nwankwo who could not hide his joy thanked the Commandant for hearkening to the voices of his staff and paying attention to their plight. He promised the Commandant that the branch will not relent in their effort to position the Academy as one of the best in the world and bring out the best in the staff.
