Cadets of Abyssinia Battalion have excelled at the just concluded Cadets Brigade Inter-Battalion Swimming Competition, which took place at the Nigeria Defence Academy Swimming Pool at the Academy’s Permanent Site.
Swimming is one of the training events in the NDA which is aimed at encouraging physical endurance and engender a good spirit of sportsmanship. The event saw each battalion fielding medically fit cadets for the competition.
The Guest of Honor at the event and the Deputy Commandant NDA, AVM CE Okoye, while addressing the cadets disclosed that swimming which is a rigorous exercise and as well energy sapping is important for the Army, Air Force and most importantly, the Navy. He therefore urged all cadets to put in their best and endure the rigors, stating that at the end, their training is geared towards a positive gain.
The competition which is expected to create physical endurance and healthy rivalry amongst the cadets will further help to also enhance team spirit and good sportsmanship amongst the competitors. The swimming events conducted during the competition includes, combine free style, combat breast stroke, female cadets free style, combat swimming and combat undressed amongst other.
