The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Mustapha Magu, has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Mr Magu who, along with other members of his entourage, was received at the Academy Headquarters by the Commandant, Major General MT Ibrahim, disclosed that the aim of their visit to the Academy was to see firsthand how activities are being run within the institution.
In his address during the visit, the Commandant commended the EFCC for its courage and commitment in the ongoing fight against corruption in the country. He also thanked Acting Chairman and his team for embarking on such an important visit to the Academy and assured the anti-graft body that the NDA under his leadership is committed to maintaining the enviable reputation and standards it is known for by producing gentlemen officers who would serve the country diligently.
Essentially, he said, the training in the NDA is hinged on three basic philosophies. These principles, he enumerated, are patriotism, integrity, courage and exemplary leadership. According to him, the NDA is keen on building the cadets with the highest standards of discipline which the military is known for. He added that NDA has zero tolerance for corruption in other to provide cadets with the best training. The Commandant further revealed that NDA has reviewed the cadets training program and their welfare in other to meet up with contemporary challenges and to ensure that its cadets are built both physically and psychologically.
Further in his remark the Commandant Major General MT Ibrahim assured the commission that the NDA is open for scrutiny at any time. The essence of this open door policy, according to him, is to build a platform where the cadets would understand the principles of leadership as an opportunity to serve, provide and manage the limited resources around them.
Speaking earlier, the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Ibrahim Magu, lamented the rate of corruption in the country. He appealed to the Commandant to include an anti corruption course into the cadets training curriculum, so that the fight against corruption would begin from the grass root, thereby creating in the cadets the right mindset as future leaders. He said the fundamental problem of corruption is lack of discipline. Therefore he encouraged everyone to be involved in the fight against corruption by maintaining a high standard of discipline.
He restated that the aim of his visit to the Academy is to see how things are done. He encouraged the Academy to propagate this message of fight against corruption. Furthermore, he called on the Nigerian Defence Academy to educate the young ones on the dangers of engaging in corrupt practices.
