The Faculty of Science started from inception of the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1985. At the time, three departments were formed, Department of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There was a Department of Biology which was run under the Nigerian Defence Academy Certificate of Education Program. This was headed by Prof. Ben Onusiriuka. He then took the initiative and requested for the inclusion of the Department of Biology in the Faculty. The approval came in 1986 and the Department of Biological Sciences was birthed.
We are proud to note that most of our cadets have been found qualified and competent to go to pursue higher degrees abroad. Also, some of our best qualified to complete their military training at the renowned Sandhurst Military Academy, UK.
Some of our qualified staff are involved in the promotional assessment of lecturers from other Nigerian Universities. We also have those serving as external examiners and on sabbatical. We have visiting lecturers from other universities and our questions are moderated by external examiners.
All departments have been accredited by the NUC and we also use the benchmark standard with particular emphasis on NDA requirements.
